Soccer is one of the most demanding of all sports. Training and conditioning are essesntial to improve performance.

Lateral movement and change of direction are key components to the training, along with explosive reaction, speed and power. Soccer players go through a range of drills that focus on resistance, overspeed and reaction movements.

Haley Holderfield, collegiate soccer star from Georgia State University trains at CES in this feature video.
Kylie Bivens“I’ve played soccer for 20 years...at Santa Clara University, then professionally for the Atlanta Beat for three seasons. Now I play for the National team. Out of those 20 years, I’ve had very minimal exposure to this type of training. Not only does CES help me become a better athlete, but also a better soccer player. Since I’ve been training with them, I’ve improved my fitness, my strength, my agility, and my lateral movement. I really think this would be a great idea for kids to start training at a young age.”

Competitive Edge Sports works with soccer players around the country to improve speed, explosiveness, power, and reaction time on the field.

Soccer is played on a large playing field, with long periods of aerobic activity and with very few rest periods in between. Athletes spend much of their time sprinting, jogging, stopping; acceleration, deceleration and moving in a 360 degree circle, all while performing different ball skills.

Soccer athletes must possess tremendous endurance and must work not only on aerobic capacity but also muscle endurance.

At CES, we have a unique way of training athletes that works on the premise of resistance, overspeed and reaction in a movement. By training in a sport and position-specific manner, we elevate the heart rate to within the target heart rate zone. The athlete’s heart rate stays in that zone during the training session thus increasing aerobic capacity, but doing so by training anaerobically.

Strength training at CES plays a major role in the success of our athletes. Our strength training primarily focuses on explosive power and muscle endurance. The combination of explosive lifting and explosive running is one of the contributing factors in obtaining the results that we have gotten over the years. Strength training for soccer also helps to correct muscle imbalances. Soccer players on the professional level have a tendency to have over-developed quadriceps and are prone to hamstring injuries. By training the muscle that is explosive in nature, we can address those needs.
